First marriage to John or Ben Thomas
Lydia had at least one stepson, Benjamin F. Thomas, from first marriage to Mr. Thomas. He lived
with Lydia till his death. No medical diagnosis, but was mentally challenged.
Atlee Burpee and Luella (Luellen) Thomas's parents are Lydia and Mr. Thomas
Atlee Burpee Thomas (my husband,s great grandmother) married Jumbo Jackson Crane on May 8, 1912 in Greenbrier, WV.
Alburtis and Elmer Lee Hedrick's parents are Lydia and Newton Hedrick
Alburtis died in a war. It wasn't known which one, but he died in another country, another continent.
I have determined Lydia and Newton Hedrick must have married between birth of last Thomas child, Luella, born June 1894 and
first Hedrick child, Alburtis, born October, 1897.
On Rootsweb I found a file by John Dosier for Newton Hedrick stating:

Juanita 1926 Tennessee Donnell/Price 1945/abt. 1954 Tennessee/Florida "Juanita was born in Tennessee, she was always told Joelton Davidson County. This is my mother and she has passed away. I sent for her birth certificate and they do not have one for a Juanita Carroll born in the years of 1925-1931 I do not think she was born a Carroll. She is listed on the 1930 census records as 3 years old with parents names Jim and Nancy Carroll. Jim passed away in 1937 and Nancy in 1969, I did know my grandmother Nancy. My mother never had a birth certificate she was always told it was destroyed in a court house fire in Nashville I do not think this is so. I think she was born out of wed lock or given to Nancy and Jim by Allie Chambliss Trenary Nancy's sister. The other possible names she could be born under are Reasoner, Seats, Chambliss, Hackney,Roberts,and Atchley. Jim was married before he married Nancy and had SEVERAL children by that union when he married Nancy some of them were older than she was. These are some of the names that were of these older girls. Giles Co,Virginia. Rachel/Rachael Fry(e) - French lived in Wise County, Virginia from 1860-1901. She died on 12-25-1901 in Wise County,Virginia while living with her son Isaac Edward French. Note: On 1840 Tazewell County,Virginia Census not one Fry family is listed; the Fry families were all in Giles County,Virginia in 1840. Rachel Fry married a widower(Levicia Lambert died 1835-1838) with seven children;three who were still living at home. I suppose she could have married a Fry between 1834-1838 to become Rachel/Rachael Fry(e). I followed a Jonathan Fry who married a Rachel McClellan in NC, but it's not her. I tried following possible Fry siblings such as Kizzie Worley,Anna Brunk-no luck finding my Rachel's Fry family.Finally, Rachel Fry-French named her children:Rufus A, Daniel Lewis, Martha, Nancy,Isaac Edward, and Kizzie(who changed her name to Anna Virginia)
Keziah Fry who married a Nathan Worley in Giles County Virginia in 1842 was a good possible sibling since Rachel named a daughter Kizzie, and her granddaughter,Nicatie Tennessee French-Buchanan named a son Nathan Worley Buchanan.However, There is no Nathan Worley listed on census after 1870.Rachel could have been a midwife,servant, minority/melungeon or part Melungeon. I have scoured records,censuses,family trees,family web sites,message boards,LDS records,etc and have not been able to find this Rachel/Rachael Fry/Frye. Any help,suggestions would be appreciated. County, Tennessee. She married Arthur Buchanan on Oct. 12, 1803 in Carter County,Tennessee. The bondsman at the marriage was a John Vance. Some people say her parents were Matthew and Barbara from SC, but I haven't found any documentation or clear-cut proof. Arthur Buchanan's family was living in Burke County,North Carolina in 1803.The only Vance living in Burke County,North Carolina on the 1810 census was a John Vance b. pre 1765. He was living in between William
Davis, a friend of the Buchanans, and Arthur Buchanan. Temperance and Arthur Buchanan named their children: James, John Vance Buchanan,
William, Arthur, Nancy, George W, David, Leanne,Alexander,and Joseph. There are no descendents named Matthew or Barbara on this branch of the Buchanans that I am aware of. I have checked census,LDS,family trees,message boards without success.If anyone has information on Temperance Vance and her parents/siblings, please contact me.
